Buena Vista, VA - Even though it was Halloween and pulling all tricks out of the bag, Radford was unable to snuff out the Southern Virginia University Knights in Buena Vista for their Senior Day.
Celebrating the careers of nine SVU players Saturday, October 31, 2009 in Buena Vista, Radford hoped to give the Knights a run for their money, but the leading seniors of SVU weren't going to let that happen.
Short field position allowed for SVU to capitalize multiple times in the redzone, and Radford was unable to keep it tight past the second quarter. Strong performances by Steve Schrank, Outside Linebacker, and Captain, Matt Bales, made it possible to keep the game as close as it was.
Another strong performance by Quarterback, Mike Massey, connecting with Wide-out, Vittorian 'Tree' Devlin, for two TD's and over 100 yards passing led the Highlander offense. Fullback, Jeremy Sturgill punched in 6 points in the 4th quarter after a powerful 20-yard rush from mid-field.
"It was a sloppy game overall, both sides of the ball didn't work as well as we have in the past," stated Captain, Matt Bales.
The 40-20 victory for SVU pushed Radford to 3-4 on the season, with Radford to host George Mason University at home on November 7, 2009.
