Radford Tops the Tar Heels
Radford, Va (10/3/10) - The last time UNC and Radford met, neither teams could get their offense moving. With both the Tar Heels’ and the Highlanders’ defense showing a strong performance that day, no offense ever saw the end-zone. The only score of the game was when UNC got a safety on Radford late in the 4th quarter, resulting in a 2 to 0 victory for the Tar Heels.
This was not the case this year as both teams found their way to the end-zone all throughout the game. On their opening drive, the Tar Heels were forced to a three and out, giving Radford the ball on their own 35. On their opening play, the Highlanders’ quarterback, Shawn Grahm, threw a 30 yard pass to wide receiver John Webb, who would run it in for the first score of the game. After forcing UNC to another three and out, Radford’s offense brought the ball to the Tar Heels’ 20 before turning the ball back over to UNC with a fumble.
UNC eventually scored and found a way to keep their offense clicking, forcing Radford to play catch up throughout most of the game. Late in the 4th quarter, linebacker Eric Zimmet picked off a pass by UNC’s quarterback Josh Broach and returned it for a touch down, putting Radford up 22 to 11. The Highlanders seemed to have the game locked up but UNC was quick to find the end-zone again, making the score 22 to 18. Radford then attempted to run out the clock but was stopped by UNC’s defense, giving the Tar Heels the ball on Radford’s 40 with a minute left in the game.
The Tar Heels would push their way to the Radford 5, but the Highlanders’ defense had no intention of giving up the game. UNC made three attempts to get into the end-zone but failed to move the ball an inch. Finally, with only 6 seconds left in regulation, UNC made one final attempt to score. With all receivers covered, quarterback Josh Broach attempted to scramble for the end-zone but was stopped a yard short with a hard hit by strong safety, Jacob Nichols. This strong defensive stop sealed the game with Radford on top 22 to 18. The Highlander’s are now 1 and 0 in the conference.

BUENA VISTA, Va. The Radford Highlanders put up a tremendous fight in the first half of the game, keeping the Knights out of the end zone until that last four minutes of the 2nd quarter. Despite Radford keeping SVU to just 8 plays in the first quarter, the Highlanders’ offense also struggled to put points on the board.
The Highlanders would go into halftime down 16 to 0 and would not score until the final minutes of the game, when corner back Jared Pugh recovered a fumble and ran it back 71 yards for the score. By then however, the game had been sealed with SVU already up 44 points.
The Knights’ quarterback Zack Garner led their offense with 105 total passing yards, exploding past Radford’s defense in the second half. The SVU defense also had a good night, keeping the highlanders to just 60-total offensive yards.
Despite a tough night for Radford, the Highlander’s defense gave a heroic effort in their attempts to stop the high-powered SVU offense. Veterans Jared Pugh and Michael Massey led the team in tackles while the defense got more sacks than the SVU Knights. Although the team struggled in many areas of the game that night, the Radford Coaches still saw a great deal of potential in both the defensive and offensive units.
The Highlanders will now prepare to host the Southern Tech Wildcats, whom they are set to play on September the 11th at 4pm.

Coaches and Players of The Radford University Club Football Team helped host the 2010 summer youth football camp in Radford Virginia. RU football players helped teach about 60 kids, between the ages of 7 and 12, the basic fundamentals of each position. The camp was hosted at Mcharg Elementary School and lasted for four days, starting on Monday, August 9th and ending on Thursday, August 12th. Agility, blocking, passing, catching, pass defending and ball carrying were just a few of the drills that were taught to the kids at camp.
Although this camp was a rewarding experience for the RU football players, it also gave them a chance to mingle with the already loyal and supportive community of Radford City. With the youth football camp finished, the RU football team will now prepare for their own training camp, set to start on August 16th.

LYNCHBURG, VA (Monday, December 7, 2009)NICKSCHRANK.COM and Fresh Printz Clothing collaborated with Restaurant Seven owners for their Grand Opening Gala that hosted close friends Michael Vick and Andre Kendrick in downtown Lynchburg Monday night. The event featured a night of buffet-style food, drinks and the appearance of Michael Vick who later signed autographs for fans that previously purchased exclusive tickets for Opening Night.

Spending the night in VIP, Nick Schrank and fellow teammate JeRome Mann, were able to talk with Michael Vick briefly. "It was just a hi...goodbye...and here's a NICKSCHRANK.COM shirt for ya! But I really enjoyed getting to meet him and I hope somewhere down the road I'll get to do it again," said Nick. There in VIP, Nick, with the help of Manager Collin White, was able to establish some valuable connections with football as well as lock up future collaborations with Restaurant Seven’s owners on designs for Michael Vick’s anticipated appearances in the spring to Restaurant Seven.

The Grand Opening of Restaurant Seven proved to be a very valuable experience for Nick Schrank as he was able to mix and mingle with the National Football League’s finest. Andre Kendrick, Virginia Tech running back and standout in the 2000 Sugar Bowl versus Florida State as well as close friend to Michael Vick, sported a NICKSCHRANK.COM T-shirt and even gave a shout out on camera to the website. Michael Vick grabbed a .COM shirt right before heading out the door and appreciated the fact that someone had something to give him for a change.
