Radford University adopted its first football team in school history early 2008. Under the idea from Alex Hilton and Robert Ellis, founders of the University Club, to make Football a recognized sport, the two approached the SCC with a proposition to bring on Football at Radford University.
After a long hard effort to establish the team, Radford Football faced an even tougher opening season that tested the will and dedication of those that decided to get on the Football bandwagon. Facing monsterous opponents such as Hargrave Military Academy and George Mason University, the newly founded team stood slightly shaken amidst the seasonal storm. Radford finished the season win-less, but the team earned its respect amongst the local community, and would live to see another year of competition.
The squad is making its journey to the top. Tradition Starts Now and continues Tomorrow. The road is not a smooth one by any means, and adversity lies ahead for the young program, but there are a core group of young men that will not see it do anything but progress. There is a tremendous amount of dedication and perseverance going towards the blueprint of the 2009 schedule. There will be a balance of equal opponents as well as a test of higher level competition. It will be interesting to see if Radford University Football can rise to the occasion.
As a member of the SCCFA, Southern Collegiate Club Football Association, Radford is scheduled to compete against the other members of this strongly established conference. The SCCFA initiates an elimination playoff system within the conference, allowing for a championship game, The Magus Cup, in which the top 2 surviving playoff teams compete to take home the Cup.

Jeremy Sturgill and Nick Schrank make Summer League Debut

Jeremy Sturgill and Nick Schrank made their Summer League semipro debut for the VA Crimson Cardinals as the Cardinals faced their conference rivals, the VA Hurricanes. Jeremy and Nick both were game-breaker contributors to the Cardinal squad. Jeremy Sturgill showed explosive capabilities from the nose-guard position while Nick Schrank backed him up at Outside Linebacker. The "terrible tandem" shook it up all game and helped lead the Cardinals to a 9-6 win over the Hurricanes.
Athlete Trains for Combine
Football player, Nick Schrank, prepares with his team members for the 2010 NFL Combine. The odds are against him, but he looks to perform to the best of his ability. Training day in and day out, Nick tries to hone his skills on the several combine specific drills such as the 5-10-5 shuttle and the 225 lbs. bench competition. It will be a long shot, but hopefully with the help of Hargrave Military Academy's Head Coach, Robert Prunty, and Northern Virignia's Parisi Speed School Nick will receive a combine invite in the coming months. Stay tuned to see how this athlete's future plays out.
